Einar, the lone warrior was not always so. He was born the heir to a kingdom. His father, the Jarl of Hrandel, returned from a three year long raid with a grievous wound. That night, he vowed to die in battle and see the gates of Valhalla but not before passing on the rule to his son. Late at night, Einor was bidden to walk with his father into the depths of the catacombs, a path his father had walked with his own father long ago. Within the catacombs, they readied themselves for the ritual. They stripped down to their flesh and Einor’s father instructed him, “Do as I do.” As dogs on all fours, they entered the temple and drank of the spirit mead. They were imparted visions of the future and visions of the past. They had entered as beasts and emerged as men, as witnessed by the eye of Odin, Einor had made a vow to spill the blood of whoever ended his father’s life.
Einor and his father went back to the longhouse where his father called a meeting of all his warriors, his brother and cousins. It was in that hall that his brother turned on him, and with their cousins beside them, they slaughtered their Jarl. Einor fled the longhouse and in the cover of darkness, he barely escaped as he hid behind some trees. In the inky blackness, he swore vengeance on the five men that had betrayed his father. That night, he left his clan in search of another, hiding his true origin.
As he grew, he kindled the rage of his shameful past, the vengeance not sated and was a berserker of great strength. In this way, he gave up the flesh of man once more and was but a beast, a raging beast. His new clan set to Viking on the shores of Angle-land and on those shores, by the moon’s light, Einor danced within the hide of a wolf and took on it’s spirit for the raiding. Once the battle was finished and all of Einor’s clan wallowed in their spoils, he was instead visited by the spirits of Norn. They called him forth from his beast’s stupor to remind him of his oath. They told him of his father’s killer and where he could be found. Deep in Angle-land, he would find his vengeance.
