Sanguine

HISTORY
"We sanguine are made from the demonics of hell and apparently that isn't where we'd want to go as a simple walk into the sunshine could end us in no time. What does that say about our eternal souls? We aren't all monsters. The line for us is blurred in a constant battle between good and evil, human and demon." - Raffaele Spataro
Long before the new religions began to wash away that of the old Gods, the sanguine were born to the demons of hell. Hecate was a goddess that was once banished to the underworld like all her brethren. Before the war, she was tasked with guarding magic, the night and moon, and necromancy. She would often visit Earth at night by leaving hell and admiring the beauty of the darkness after the sun had set, but in doing so, had made some of the other lesser demonic deities curious and jealous. She offered two of these friends, Lamia and Empusa, to come with her to visit Earth so they too could admire the world at night and away from the underworld.

The three would wander the world together under the stars, but there was something the sisters could not keep at bay; their thirst for human blood. Hecate was unaware of what the deities were planning as they roamed the world and soon was off on her own, never thinking Lamia and Empusa would cause any trouble for fear of punishment from her very own hand. The sisters could not control their impulses and instincts and soon they had used their hypnotic powers to draw in unsuspecting men and women to their beds and feed on their flesh and drink their blood.

Hecate had found out what the sisters had done and banished them back to the underworld, but it was too late. The first of the sanguine were born of their victims. The species was a plague among humans at the beginning of their creation. Whole villages would be murdered to satiate the craving they could not seem to fill from the blood of innocent humans that covered them like oceans.

The whispers of these new monsters in the world brought a rallying spirit among the humans. They were not going to stand by while the sanguine decimated their towns over the centuries any longer. Once they learned where a nest of the sanguine lived, the humans attacked at dawn. Many of their lives were lost, but they were able to catch one of these demons by the name of Raffaele Spataro, thus sparking a war between the two species.

They bound and torchered the sanguine in horrific ways to learn how to hurt his kind. The days and nights had stretched on for him, but he was able to escape before they had planned to leave him in the sun to die. However, his time being captured was enough for the humans to learn how to defend themselves and the rest of the sanguine went into hiding, mostly feeding on animals or a stray human.

Decades into centuries had passed and the monsters that preyed at night was soon becoming a legend among the humans. Sanguine had to change their way of survival and begin to harness their powers of hypnosis and siring, making it easier to feed. They could never endure another war by the humans who outnumbered them greatly and so they kept to the shadows and learned to mingle among them instead of turning into the unstoppable monsters that lay dormant inside them like their creators Lamia and Empusa. The thirst is and always will be a struggle for most of their kind and how they deal with that alone tends to define the character of each individual sanguine; It is the war between their human and demon sides.
ABILITIES
SHADOW BLENDING
Sanguine move the fastest when they are among shadows. They can meld easily into the darkness and vanish completely. This is only achievable with years of practice and not every sanguine can do it. Only those that have been dead for several centuries or more have been known to be able to perform shadow blending.

HYPNOSIS
Sanguine can cause a temporary sense of hypnosis to humans and some supernaturals including, mystics, gypsies, lupines, and cursed. Most use this to feed and can also make someone forget small bits of time in their memory. It can easily be interrupted if eye contact is broken.

TURNING
Turning a human into a sanguine is possible by letting the sanguine drink a human nearly to death. As the human's digested blood mixes with the sanguine's, the human then drinks a large amount of the newly combined sanguine's blood. The transformation is excrutiatingly painful and most humans do not survive.

SIRING
The creator of a newly born sanguine is a sire. This term is also used for a sanguine who continously feeds on a willing human that has consumed some of the sanguine's blood. The creator will then have the ability to sense when their born sanguine or human(s) is in some type of mortal danger and vice versa.
STRENGTHS
IMMORTALITY
Sanguine are immortal and cannot die of old age or disease.

ENHANCED SENSES
Sanguine have enhanced taste, smell, hearing, touch, and sight during the night time.

ENHANCED STRENGTH AND SPEED
Sanguine are the fastest supernaturals without question and can move within the blink of an eye. They are stronger than humans and most other supernaturals.

HEALING
Sanguine are able to heal rapidly at night time.

VENOM
Sanguine have venom that secretes from their fangs and mixes with a person's blood, making them more relaxed and willing to let the sanguine feed. The venom is euphoric to the person being fed on.
WEAKNESSES
DAYTIME
Sanguine are able to go outside in the day, but they are nearly human when doing so. All of their enhanced senses and healing drop dramatically. Direct sunlight is draining to the point where they could pass out and eventually die... again. Sanguine rarely go outside when the sun is up and prefer sleeping during those hours. This is when they are most vulnerable.

DECAPITATION
A sanguine can be killed if their head is removed from their body.

BLESSED ITEMS
Any item that is sacred or has been blessed by a religious leader can prove painful to the sanguine if touched. These items tend to give off a certain vibration before the sanguine even comes in contact with it.

FEEDING
Sanguine must drink at least a cup of blood a day to be at their peak. Human blood is the most fulfilling, but they can drink animal blood which will require a lot more to be satiated. If a sanguine does not feed within two days, they will grow weak and any longer will cause the sanguine to painfully starve to death before turning to ash. Sanguine are also able to feed from mystics, lupines, gypsies, fae, sirens, eternals (not human-born), and cursed (depending on the curse). Blood can easily become an addiction if a sanguine cannot control their feeding. Human blood is the most addicting. Fae, mystics, and eternal blood gives sanguine a high which is also quite addicting, while banshee and valkyrie blood will cause sickness, and a human-born eternal's blood is poisonous from the ichor and could lead to death. Sanguine can eat normal food for the taste, but it's never filling.

VULNERABILITY
Sanguine are susceptible to some other species' abilities, but not as powerful as they would be against a human, including- a banshee's scream, mystic magic, gypsy's illusion and dreamwalking, a fae's magic, a drake's fear gaze and breath, and an eternal's affinity.
TRAITS
PHYSICAL FEATURES
Sanguine have no heartbeat, they don't breathe, are colder to the touch, and for all purposes are dead. Their fangs can come out at will, but there are times when it can happen uncontrollably, especially around blood.

STERILE
Sanguine cannot have children.

COMPANIONSHIP
Many sanguine feel more comfortable in nests or at the least with one other sanguine. An immortal life can become very lonely without a mate.

PRIVATE
Sanguine have always preferred to keep to themselves and out of the public eye. They are far fewer than humans and don't wish to give cause for a massacre at their hands. It would make feeding far more difficult.

ADDICTION
Being addicted to blood is something most sanguine have to confront and continue to be wary of. It is rare to find a sanguine that hasn't had to battle the addiction at some point in their long lives, especially newborns.

NEWBORNS
Newborn sanguine are incredibly weak. They have to feed on their sire for the first few days several times as well as obtain other forms of blood just to stay 'alive'.Their senses are also on overload and they begin to learn how to harness them.
