Mystics

HISTORY
❝Magic is not a practice. It is a living, breathing web of energy that, with our permission, can encase our every action.❞ ― Dorothy Morrison
At the birth of all creation there was magic. It was wild and untamed and as a way to tame this power, the goddess Hecate was born. She was named the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. Gaining the mental of Goddess of Magic led to Hecate roaming earth searching for students with magic in their veins. These beings she came across that she would take under her wings became known as Sorceri.

These were magic users that were born with the ability to use magic in their blood. As she trained them, she found herself in awe of the vast abilities they held. Once she was confident in their ability to control their magic, she would set them out to find other magic users to teach. In doing this, Hecate learned that there were beings known as Wizards who could use magic, but only through physical means with arcane focus such as wands, amulets, runes, potions, and spells that use physical ingredients.

Magic was widely accepted by all and Mystics were held in high regards. Things were going well for the Hecate and those of magic blood, until the war of the eternals fell upon the world. Hecate was erased from all beings' memory and Mystics no longer had a guiding force. Magic was wild and untamed again, leading to the ups and downs of magic through history.

Once council sorceri of royal families and other esteemed positions to only be burned at the stake for their magical abilities, magic became feared and a taboo through time. Due to the fear they caused, sorceri often found themselves in communities of like minded people or other magic users or even alone where they could practice magic with no trepidation.

Yet like most things, not every magic user is created equal. Magic can be used in a few different ways. One could be born with the ability to use magic; These are Sorceri the strongest of magic users. Magic users who need physical elements to cast are Thaumaturge. Last, but not least are the humans called Warlocks who have sold their soul to a Sorceri in order to have access to a taste of their magic power.
ABILITIES
There are three different classes of Mystics:

Sorceri - are the only Mystics that are born with magic in their blood from birth. They are the most powerful, being able to use all forms of magic with the right amount of training.

Thaumaturge - are Mystics that rely on physical magic outside of them; Runes, spells, stones, sigials, often only following one path in Mystichood because of how long it takes to master with outside elements.

Warlocks - are Humans that have sold their souls to a Sorcerer or Sorceress to gain magical abilities. Their soul is tethered to the Mystic which allows them to tap into a fraction of their bloodline magic. Their magic is gifted until the Mystic they sold their soul to comes to claim it.

All Mystic Abilities:

SPELL CASTING
Spell casting is the ability to cast a pre-written or created spell, using potions, hand gestures and the spoken word.

SCRYING
Scrying is the ability to find someone or something using blood, a map and a scrying stone.

POTION MAKING
The mixing of herbs and various other ingredients or components to make liquid potions generally using a mortar and pestle and cauldron (pot).

CRYSTALS
Tapping into their natural abilities, Mystics have used them as amulets or arcana focus. They are one of the strongest forms of magic everyone can access.

RUNES
Creating runes can only be done by a High Sorceri and is the ability to create symbols to enhance the strength and duration of an existing spell. Ex. Healing rune, fire rune, barrier rune etc. The runes must be etched onto the user's skin like a tattoo and can then be activated whenever the caster chooses to enhance a spell.

GRIMOIRE
These are spell books put together throughout time that help Mystics understand how to cast spells. These books are often put together by families of magic users and passed down through the years. They are also crafted by Sorceri to help train others in the use of magic.

Sorceri Abilities:

SPELL WRITING
Writing spells can only be done by Sorceri and is the task of creating a new spell that has never before been written, usually by taking the writings of other spells and improving on it or combining ones that already exist into something different.

POTION CREATION
Only Sorceri's have the abilities to make new kinds of potions.

MULTI-MYSTICHOOD
Since they are born with magic in their blood, they are not limited to learning one path of magic. The world of magic is in their hands as long as they train properly.

Thaumaturge Abilities:

ONE PATH MYSTICHOOD
Since they spend their lives learning magic, they are only able to master one path of Mystichood.
Ex. Fire Thaumaturge, Ice Thaumaturge, Script Thaumaturge.
(Please explain what kind of mystichood you are taking when applying.)
Warlock Abilities:

ONE PATH MYSTICHOOD
Since they gained their magic from a Sorceri, they often are only able to use one type of magic that the Sorceri has mastered. This is often decided with the blood bond that is formed.
(Please explain what kind of mystichood you were given in the blood bond when applying.)
STRENGTHS
INTELLIGENCE
Due to their ability to tap into aspects of their minds others can't, they often are able to understand other languages in a shorter amount of time, learn about herbs and flowers’ properties, and how Crystals should be used and how to cleanse them.

SORCERI
Sorceri have the ability to cast easier, but their endurance to cast for long periods of time is lower since they use the magic within their body to cast.

THAUMATURGE
Thaumaturge uses elements of the physical world and don’t have to have an endurance to cast as long as they have all the materials they need.

WARLOCKS
Warlocks are tapped into a Sorceri bloodline, so they have all the endurance they need for the one Mystichood they can use.
WEAKNESSES
FRAILTY
Though they have magical abilities, Mystics are still human, therefore all things that could kill a human could kill a Mystic and if they overuse their power to depletion, it will cause blinding migraines, fainting, and blood coming out of facial orifices.

ILL PREPARED
When a mystic tries to take on a spell or ritual they are not trained for they will become super sick and can even die.

CORRUPTION
Due to the ability to tap into different magics, they can easily fall into dark magic. Dark magic is powerful magic that leads to Mystics losing their souls and moral compasses.

WARLOCK SOUL BOND
Once a human sells their soul to a Sorceri they are bound to that Sorceri. The Sorceri can call upon them whenever they wish and use them to do their bidding without question.
They lose pieces of their soul also which leads to a feeling of emptiness as a whole that can never be filled no matter what they try. It can even cause gaps in good memories

VULNERABILITY
Mystics are highly susceptible to the abilities of other species, including- a siren's songs, fae magic, banshee screams, sanguine venom and illusions, a lupine's empathy, and gypsies' dreamwalking and illusions, a drake's fear gaze and breath, and an eternal's affinity.
TRAITS
APPEARANCE
Mystics look and act just like humans. Because they are basically human beside their ability to do magic.

LONGER LIVES
Mystics can live slightly longer than mortals given the aid of magic unless they over use it.
(Clarice is a Sorceri who has perfected an immortality spell, but refuses to let it fall into the hands of others. So She has a potion to counteract it.)

TRAINING
Mystics are not skilled at magic from the start of their journey. They have to train and grow their magic ability with time.

GLOWING EYES
Mystics tend to have a slight glow to their eyes when using magic and often change with the color of magic they are using.

CASTING
Most magic is performed using hand gestures, runes, crystals and other arcanic focus. Only very powerful Sorceri are capable of casting with no gestures and other arcanic items at all.

WARLOCK SOUL SELLING
A human can seek out a powerful Sorceri for a taste of magic. One branch of Mystichood. When selling their soul, it is meant to ensure that the warlock returns to collect it after using the magical ability they have borrowed. Selling their soul has side effects as the Sorceri can remove pieces of their soul for spells and once the soul is sold to the Sorceri, the Sorceri can call upon them whenever they wish.
EX. A human wishes to avenge the death of his family, so he seeks out Clarice to sell his soul for fire magic. Clarice grants this and takes his soul placing it in a jar. The human goes and spends a few years learning to use magic and then burns down the village of his family’s attackers and returns to collect his soul in exchange for giving the magic back to Clarice.
