Sirens

HISTORY
"Now the Sirens have a still more fatal weapon than their song, namely their silence... someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence, certainly never."
Way before the species was given the title of Siren, the well known half fish, half human beings were once, indeed, human; they were nothing but mundane. They lived among the other species unknowingly, and experienced the day to day struggles that life threw at them; yet for one small farming village, many of their lives were soon going to change dramatically when a celestial being named Persephone moved into a local farm. The villagers were enticed by the radiant woman, she was kind and generous but more importantly, she had so much love to give; what they offered her would never be able to repay her for what she did to their village. For some lucky enough to get close to Persephone and her Mother, were introduced into a life that only religion could offer them; their beliefs were soon given life - they were in the presence of an Angel. With that in mind, these humans could not stop themselves from wanting to spend as much time with Persephone as possible and much to their amazement, she was more than happy to entertain them. Their days continued with much happiness and contentment for many months, yet, happiness always comes to an end; the villagers were woken in the early hours to a piercing scream.

Naturally, those who had become close to the family were granted access to Persephone's Mother chambers to find her pacing the room; anger had seemed to overwhelm her. It was then that the unimaginable happened, the humans were offered wings and immortality to retrieve the maiden from the clutches of the Underworld. They accepted without hesitation for it was not what was offered that they wanted, they just wanted the Celestial being back in their lives; after a few days of chants and what seemed like voodoo, in which made some question their fate and personal beliefs, they soon gained their wings as promised and immortality bestowed upon them. At first, the humans had to train, not only to fly but also to fight as they would be against things that only their imaginations could conjure up; they were taught the history of the Gods, the real history and lastly, why Hades may have taken Persephone.

A year later, the immortal humans were finally ready to take flight and fight for Persephone; to bring her back home to their community. The journey to The Underworld was tough indeed, and sadly they did lose a handful of their men in the journey to other unworldly creatures. Eventually they reached the heart of The Underworld, and despite their training, they faced something they were never prepared for; their dearest Persephone had now turned to Darkness - she was now his Queen. The humans begged and pleaded with her to come back with them and some of the more confident souls tried to use force which only sealed their fate. Persephone had ripped their wings and removed their legs with that of a fish's tail. These were the first of the kind named Siren.

The Sirens remained in The Underworld for some time, doing the bidding of Persephone until the small clan released them as nothing more than prisoners; what they had now was truly special. They were bound to the sea but were able to walk on land for small bouts of time; thus, they struck a deal to Persephone; for their freedom, they would report back to her every now and again. After much reluctance, Persephone agreed and allowed her children to be free. Of course, the moment they reached the sea of humans, Persephone's Mother soon tracked them down; angry with them, she placed a further curse upon The Sirens. If they were ever to give birth to their offspring on land, their child would not be able to return to the sea with them; the child would live a mundane life, if it survived of course but would always feel different to its other humans. It would be at the discretion of Poseidon when he believed the child was worthy of their tail and thus, be able to return to the sea; yet of course, these sirens would not know of their heritage which was even more painful for their Siren parents.

For them, that was a small price to pay and they vowed never to give birth to their kind on land; however, as time went on, their heritage and their beliefs only became a myth and many were born on land. Throughout this time, many Underwater Kingdoms appeared in each prominent body of water; Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean and the like and the sirens also evolved to gain their own supernatural abilities. Yet one thing remains true; each King or Queen of the Colonies, still reports back to Persephone at every quarter of the year.
ABILITIES
SIREN'S SONG
This is an enticing sound to almost everyone, particularly humans; their song can manipulate their victim to do their bidding or simply beckon them closer to feed.

AMPHIBIOUS TRANSFORMATION
A siren is able to transform into a human at will, however, this is incredibly painful.

SPEED SWIMMING
A Siren's tail can propel them through the sea at incredible speed; even in the roughest of currents air.
STRENGTHS
IMMORTALITY
Sirens are immortal and cannot die from old age or disease.

STRENGTH
A Siren is noticeably stronger than a human.

HEALING
A Siren can heal quickly to minor wounds.
WEAKNESSES
FEEDING
Sirens have to eat human flesh to survive, they can eat a minimal amount of human food but this leaves them feeling incredibly ill. Without their natural human diet, sirens will eventually die.

DEPENDENCE ON WATER
If they stay away from salt water for a long period of time, their skin will dry out which consequently will lead to their death.

SLOW ON LAND
A Siren is much slower on land, this helps them blend in with humans. However, it does put them at an disadvantage to other species.

BRONZE
A Siren can be harmed by anything bronze that comes into contact with their skin. Bronze is able to burn their skin, and contain them. A bronze dagger also has the power to kill the Siren.

VULNERABILITY
Sirens are susceptible to other species' abilities, but not as powerful as they would be against a human, including- a mystic's magic, a gypsy's illusion and dreamwalking, a fae's magic, a sanguine's venom, a banshee's scream, a lupine's empathy, a drake's fear gaze and breath, and an eternal's affinity.
TRAITS
SIREN FORM
The colour of a Siren's tail depends on which colony/sea that they belong to. When in Siren form, they do not cover the top half of their body and when feeding, or whenever they are angry etc, their teeth become sharp fangs and their nails grow into long talons.

HUMAN FORM
In human form, they look very much human - there is very little to tell the two apart.

SOCIAL
Sirens are a very social species, particularly with their own kind, when you see one, there are normally a handful more lurking somewhere nearby.

BOUND BY THE OCEAN
They are always drawn to the water, and you'll never see one venture too far inland.

SEABORN AND LANDBORN
There are two different kinds of Sirens; One group of Sirens are born in the sea and thus live a normal life. The other group are those that are born on land; despite being born a Siren, they are cursed to live among humans until they are worthy of their tail - this is granted by Poseidon. These will typically have two names, a Human name and a Siren name.
